Dallas County Jail Overview

The Dallas County Jail is also described by the sheriff's office as the Dallas County Sheriff's Correctional Facility on the official Jail Division page. The operator is the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. The jail serves the county inmate population for arrests made by sheriff's deputies, city police departments, and other agencies whose arrestees are booked into county custody. The roster sample in the research showed Perry Police Department as a booking origin while the person was housed in the Dallas County Jail New Facility.

The facility is a county jail, not a state prison. It holds people before release, bond, pretrial release, court order, sentencing, or transfer. The official county jail page did not publish a current rated capacity. Local 2020 reporting and project descriptions said the newer law-enforcement center had 132 beds and replaced the older 24-bed jail. Use that number as historical project context, not as a current official capacity statement.

Dallas County Jail Booking

The Dallas County Jail Division page says people placed under arrest are brought to the sheriff's correctional facility in Adel. Intake includes property intake, medical screening, fingerprinting, photographing, and a warrants check. The public roster then may show booking number, booking date, prisoner type, housing facility, booking origin, bonds, court dates, charges, and a booking photo.

New charges go before a magistrate within 24 hours. The magistrate informs the arrestee of the charges and may set bond. The county says release may occur through bond, pretrial release through the 5th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services, final court appearance and sentencing, or court order. Processing time can vary when several arrestees are being handled at once.

Dallas County Jail Bond

Dallas County publishes several bond options on its Bond Information page. During regular business hours, a cash bond can be paid through the Dallas County Clerk of Court with cash, cashier's check, or money order payable to the Dallas County Clerk of Court. The clerk provides a certificate verifying payment, and that certificate must be brought to the jail. Cash or credit card can also be accepted at the Jail Teller in the jail lobby, and the county links an online JailATM option.

Dallas County Jail Care

Dallas County contracts with Advanced Correctional Healthcare for jail health care. Inmates who become ill fill out a medical request, and the jail nurse or jail doctor reviews the request. Medication may be bought through the ACH pharmacy or another ACH-approved pharmacy. Medication management is overseen by the jail nurse and dispensed by jail staff who have State of Iowa medication-management training.

The jail states that health-care costs, including doctor, hospital, ambulance, medication, and dental costs, are charged to the inmate's commissary account. If the account does not have enough money, a deficit may be applied and later deposits may be used to cover it. Inmates receive three meals a day delivered to cells, with special dietary accommodations where needed.

Dallas County Jail Transfers

A Dallas County Jail inmate may later move into another system. A sentenced state prisoner is searched through the Iowa DOC Offender Search, not the county roster. A federal sentenced prisoner is searched through the BOP locator. Immigration detention is searched through ICE ODLS. No official source found a separate state prison, BOP facility, ICE detention facility, or work-release annex physically in Dallas County.

Note: Confirm custody, visit rules, and bond status directly with the jail before traveling or sending money.
